A RESOLUTION HONORING THE COMMUNITY OF MOUNT HERMON. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, since 1972, the City of Portsmouth and the <br />Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority in close <br />cooperation with the citizens of Mount Hermon has under- <br />taken a comprehensive revitalization program in the <br />Mount Hermon Conservation and Redevelopment Project; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the ~mprovement program in this neighborhood <br />began in 1967 as a result of concerns over identified conditions <br />of blight and deterioration expressed by the Mount Hermon <br />Conuuunity League; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, since the project began the citizens of the <br />community, represented by the Mount Hermon Project Area <br />Committee, have played a major role in the unparalleled <br />improvements undertaken in the nezghborhood to date as <br />evidenced by new public and private investment in the area; <br />'and <br /> <br /> ~'~EREAS, the success of this revitalization has been of <br />significant benefit to the entire City and has been recognized <br />as one of the most successful projects of this nature in <br />the country; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the community rebuilding effort and the partnership <br />of Mount Hermon citizens, the City of Portsmouth, and the <br />Authority which made possible this success, was recently <br />recognized by the Department of Housing and Urban Development <br />in the selection of this project as a recipient of HUD's 1980 <br />Urban Environmental Design Award. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council <br />hereby commends the Mount Hermon community upon the receipt <br />of this well-deserved national citation which will serve as <br />a model for future rebuilding programs in the City of Ports- <br />mouth; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is hereby <br />directed to foi-~ard a copy of this resolution to Mr. Joseph <br />Parker, President of the Mt.
