38 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REQUHSTING VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND <br />TRANSPORTATION TO TAKE THE NECESSARY STEPS TO ASSURE THE <br />PROMPT ADVERTISING AND AWARD OF BIDS ON THE VICTORY BOULEVARD <br />EXTENSION PROJECT AND THE TO~ POINT ROAD/POPLAR HILL ROAD <br />IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth has <br />previously approved the Victory Boulevard Extension Project <br />and the Town Point Road/Poplar Hill Road Improvements Project; <br />~nd <br /> WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of <br />Highways And Transportation (VDHT) had previously approved <br />said projects and scheduled the advertisement for construction <br />of same for the Summer of 1980; and <br /> WHEREAS, the construction of said projects is necessary <br /> for the safe handling of increased motor vehicle traffic and <br /> the commercial, industrial and residential development of <br /> the areas of the City of Portsmouth to be served thereby; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, any delay in advertising and construction of <br /> these proposed projects would be of great disappointment <br /> the economic and social development of this City. <br /> NOW, Th~EREFORH, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br /> City of Portsmouth, Virginias that VDHT is requested to take <br /> the necessary steps to assure the prompt advertising and <br /> award of bids on these two projects as currently scheduled. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed <br /> to forward a copy of this resolution to VDHT, the Governor <br /> of Virginia, and members of the General Assembly representing <br /> the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> Virginia, at a meeting held May 13, 1980. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
