3O <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE GRATITUDE OF THE CITY TO THE <br />ELIZABETH RIVER GARDEN CLUB OF PORTSMOUTH AND THE GARDEN <br />CLUB OF VIRGINIA FOR UNDERTAKING THE LANDSCAPING OF THE <br />COURTYARD OF THE 1846 PORTSMOUTH'COURTHOUSE; PROCLAIMING <br />APRIL t9~ 1980 THROUGH APRIL 26~ 1980 TO BE HISTORIC GARDEN <br />WEEK IN PORTSMOUTH- <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Elizabeth River Garden Club of Portsmouth <br />and %he Garden Club of Virginia have obtained a grant to <br />assist in the landscaping and beautifying of the Courtyard <br />of the 1846 Portsmouth Courthouse; and <br /> W~REAS, the Garden Club of Virginia has designated <br />April I~ I980 through April 26~ 1980~ to be Historic Garden <br />Week in Virginia; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Elizabeth River Garden Club of Portsmouth <br />will participate in this annual event by sponsoring the Hodges <br />Ferry House and Garden Tourt and a Doll House Exhibit at the <br />Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club; and <br /> WHEREAS, t~e Council of the City of Portsmouth wishes to <br /> '= +=+u e the Garden Club of Virginia and the <br /> express ~us gra~,~ d to <br /> Elizabeth River Garden Club of Portsmouth for its continued <br /> generosity in participating in projects for the betterment <br /> and beautification of property in Portsmouth. <br /> NO~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br /> City o~ ~ortsmouth~ Virginma, that the gratitude of the citizens <br /> of the CitF of Portsmouth and the Council of the City of Ports- <br /> mouth is hereby publicly expressed to the Garden Club of Virginia <br /> and the Elizabeth River Garden Club in appreciation for obtain- <br /> ing a gran~ to nndertake the landscaping of the Courtyard of the <br /> 1846 Portsmouth COurthouse. <br /> B~ IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the week of April 19~ 1980 <br /> through April 26~ 1980 is hereby proclaimed7 as Historic Garden <br /> Week in Portsmouth; and that the Council~of the City of Ports- <br /> mouth takes this opportunity to urge the citizens of the City <br /> to participate in this event by visiting those homes and locations <br /> designated on the tour. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be <br /> spread upon the Minutes of the Council and that'a copy hereof <br /> be presented to the Garden Club of Virginia and to the Elizabeth <br /> Rmver Garden club of Portsmouth. <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br /> at a meeting held April 8, 1980. <br /> <br />Testa: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
