9. The Bonds, ~he coupons pertaining to the Bonds and the provisions for registration to be endorsed on the Bonds shall be in substantially the following forms, respectively, to-wit: (Fonn of Bond) UNI%~D STATES OF AMERICA C(~N~ONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA CITY OF PORTSMOUTH GENqL~AL OBLIGATION t~UBLIC IMPROVEMENT BOND The City of Portsmouth (%he "City), a municipal corporation of the Conmonweal~h of Virginia, hereby acknowledges itself indebted for value received ned promises %o pay to the bearer hereof, or, if this Bond then be registered as heremn~ provided, to the then registered ~er hereof, the principal] remount of Pive Thousand Dollars ($5,000) on the first day of March (subje~c to the right of prior zedemption hereinafter mentioned) UpOn the presentation mhd surrender hereof, and to pay interest on said principal sum from the date hereof at the rate of per centum (% ) per annum} payable September 1, 1980, and semi-annually thereafter on March 1 and September 1 of each year. This Bond may be registered by ~he holder as to principal only or as to both principal and in%erest in accordance with the provisions for such registration endorsed hereon. If this Bond shall not then be registered as to bo~.h principal a-nd interest, the interest hereon payable prior to maturity shall be payable at the principal office of Virginia National Bank, Un .-Norfolk, Virginia, or, at the option of the bolder of this Bond, at the principal office of ~ne Chase Manhattan Bank (National Association), in the City of New York, New York, the paymng agents for this Bond, but only upon the presentation a-nd surrender of the respeotive coupons annexed hereto representing such interest as the same becom_= due and payable. The interest on ~nis Bond while registered as to both principal and interest shall be payable by the City by check or draft mailed to the registered owner at such ~ner's address as shown on the books of registry. The principal of mhd premium, if any, and interest on this Bond ere payable in such coin or currency of the United States of kmerica as at the respechive dates of payment is legal tender for public and private debts.
