56 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE PROPOSED REPLACE~-~NT FACILITIES <br />TO BE INSTALLED ON THE FORMER U. S. COAST GUARD BASE BY THE <br />VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HIG~AYS AND TRANSPORTATION AS A PART <br />OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE THIRD CROSSING OF THE ELIZABETH <br />RIVER. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Highways And Trans- <br />portation has advised that the proposed third tunnel will <br />require total demolition of the pier facilities at the <br />former U. S. Coast Guard Base located between slips numbered <br />3 and 4 as well as demolition of several structures now <br />located on the'property; and <br /> <br /> ~qEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has been advised by the <br />Engineering fir_~ of Langley And McDonald that said facilities <br />would best be replaced in order to obtain the most flexibility <br />of use by a pier one hundred fifty feet (150') in width and <br />three hundred sixty-two feet (362') in length with appropriate <br />utilities included; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the payment to the City of a sum equal to the <br />cost of the proposed replacement facilities would enable <br />replacement of the pier by the City at a later date with <br />such modifications ~s may be required by a proposed use; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth reaffirms <br />its co~nitment to cooperate with the Virginia Department of <br />Highways And Transportation by providing the necessary con- <br />struction easements and permanent easement (only for actual <br />location of the tunnel) at no cost to the project. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFOP~, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, endorses the proposed replacement <br />facilities to be installed at the former U. S. Coast Guard <br />Base by the Virginia Department of Highways And Transportation <br />as a part of the development of the third crossing of ~he <br />Elizabeth River or in the alternative the payment to the City <br />of Portsmouth of a sum equal to the cost thereof such proceeds <br />to be used for replacement of the pier. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, at a meeting held July 8, 1980. <br /> <br />Tes~e: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
