That no expansion of the disposal area, either upward <br />or to the westr should be permitted, uhless and until, all appli- <br />cable environmental and economic impact studies have been com- <br />pleted and all pertinent procedures have been strictly complied <br />with. <br /> <br /> 2. That this Council further states that use of Craney <br />Island as a fill area should be terminated at the earliest <br />opportunity and that the whole of such area should be conveyed <br />to the Commonwealth of Virginia, and ultimately the City of <br />Portsmouth, to be utilized as a site for industrial development, <br />such utilization to be accomplished with dispatch. <br /> <br /> 3. That this Council calls upon the Army Corp of Engineers <br />to review the alternative plans recommended in their September, <br />1979 report and, if necessary, commence a new study on alternate <br />means for the disposal of dredged materials in the Hampton Roads- <br />Chesapeake Bay Area. <br /> <br /> 4. That the City Manaqer and the C±ty Attorney be. and <br />they'hereby are, directed to carefully monitor the administrative <br />disposition of this matter with full authority to take whatever <br />steps are necessary to express the Council's opposition to the <br />expansion of the Craney ~sland Disposal Area at such time and in <br />such for~s as they deem appropriate. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk bet and she <br />hereby is, directed to forward copies of this Resolution to the <br />appropriate authorities. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of~the City of Portsmouth, Virginia~ <br />at a meeting held October i3, t9Sl. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
