45 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE GOVE~OR~ND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF <br />VIRGINIA TO APPOINT A PORTSMOUTH RESIDENT TO THE BOARD OF <br />COMMISSIONERS OF THE VIRGINIA PORT AUTHORITY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the term of <br />Board of Co~ssioners of <br />to expire; ~d <br /> <br />the current Portsmouth resident on the <br />the Virginia Port Authority is scheduled <br /> <br /> WHERE~%S, the operation of the Portsmouth port facility has been <br />and continues-to be one of the most successful operations of such <br />facilities in the Commonwealth; and <br /> <br /> WHE~, the Virginia Port Authority has acquired and continues <br />to acquire substantial land holdings and port related development <br />property in the City of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the entire operation of the port facility in Portsmouth <br />is scheduled to become a part of the jurisdiction of the Virginia <br />Port Authority in 1985, subject to cer~amn provisions enacted by <br />the General Assembly of Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of-~ortsmouth has supper%ed and will continue <br />to support development of the port facilities ina manner which <br />will be most beneficial to the well being ef its citizens; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the continued successful operation of the port <br />facilities is the foremost objective of the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the C~ty of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Governor and General Assembly of <br />Virginia be hereby requested~to appoint a Portsmouth resident to <br />the Board of Commissioners of the Virginia Port Authority. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereby <br />is, instructed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Honorable <br />Charles S. Robb, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia; the <br />Honorable Richard J. Davis, Lieutenant Governor ef~the Commonwealth <br />of Virginma; Senator Willard J. Moody; Delegate L. Cleaves Ms/lning <br />and Delegate Johnny S.
