38 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING ~_ND CO~"~END!NG TEE FRIF~DS OF THE <br />PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD MUSEUM FOR DEDICATED SERVICE TO <br />THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Friends of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard <br />Museum was organized in October of 1962 to promote, <br />support and encourage public interest in the programs of <br />the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum through service, contri- <br />butions and education; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, "The Friends" supplements the staff of the <br />Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum and have given over 40,100 <br />service hours welcoming 780,675 guests since January of 1963 <br />from all 50 states and 45 foreign countries; and <br /> <br /> W/.4EREAS, "The Friends" have operated a gift shop at <br />the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum and used the money <br />derived therefrom to benefit the ~useum and further its <br />programs; and <br /> <br /> WH_~EREAS, "The Friends" have given of their time, talents <br />and funds for the enhancement of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard <br />_~useum, thus, providing a hospitable and friendly atmosphere <br />on behalf of the City of Portsmouth and its citizens for the <br />many visitors to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEP~FORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth recognizes and commends The Friends of the <br />Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum for its dedicated service <br />to the citizens of the City of Portsmouth and wishes it con- <br />tinued suaccess and activity in the future. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution <br />be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council and that a <br />copy thereof be presented to the President of The Friends of <br />the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held June 14, 1983. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
