97 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE PROMPT AND HEROIC ACTION TAKEN <br />BY WALTER L. "C. J." COLEY, JR.. <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, the Thrifty Ten Club of First Baptist Church <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia sponsored an educational tour to <br />Walt Disney World, Sea World and Epcot Center between August <br />15th and August 20th, 1983; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on Friday, August 19, 1983, the tour was <br />lodged in Savannah, Georgia, and a group of the children <br />were playing in the swimming pool; and <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, in the course of their playing, 13 year old <br />Wilii~ Otis Richardson inadvertently ended up in deep %~ater <br />and began calling for help; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, 8 year old Walter L. Co!e~, Jr., better known <br />as "C. J.", entered the pool, moving around the edge of <br />sa~,e until he could reach out and pull william to the side; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, William's lungs had consumed enough water to <br />have dro~ned, but ~as given prompt medical attention, and <br />has now recovered from his near tragedy; and <br /> <br /> W~EREAS, C. J. had risked his own life, and had an <br />extremely difficult time in rescuing Wil!is~ and preventing <br />a tragedy from occurring. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT'~RESOLVED that the Council of %he <br />City of Portsmouth recognizes the prompt and heroic action <br />taken by "C.
