95 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION EXPANDING THE PLEi. IBERSHIP ON THE PORTSMOUTH <br />REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY FROM FIVE (5) TO SEVEN <br />(7) COMMISSIONERS. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia <br />on the 13th day of Septe~;Der, 1938, in accordance with the <br />Housing Autkorities Law of Virginia created a political <br />subdivision of the Commonwealth designated as the Portsmouth <br />Redevelopment and Housing Authority with such public and <br />corporate powers as are set forth in the applicable laws <br />of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the powers of such Authorities are vested in <br />the Co~w~issioners thereof who are to be appointed by the <br />governing body of the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority <br />is currently governed by five (5) members appointed by the City <br />Council for terms of four (4) years, and it is the opinion of <br />this Council that an expansion of the number of members would <br />allow for greater input from diverse areas of our City. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth expands the Board of Commissioners of <br />the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority from five <br />(5] to seven (7) members who shall be appointed for terms <br />of offices for four (4) years; provided, hov~ever, that of <br />those persons first appointed to the additional two (2) <br />vacancies created kereby, one (1) shall be appointed for a <br />term of two [2) years and one (1) shall be appointed for a <br />term of three (3) years. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution shall take <br />effect from the date of its adoption. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia <br />at a meeting held September 27, 1983. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
