79 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING THE CITY OF HAMPTON ON ITS <br />375TH ANNIVERSARY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Hampton is recognized as the <br />oldest, continuous English speaking settlement in the <br />United States; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Hampton has a continuous <br />heritage of involvement in all aspects of American <br />history from colonial settlement to the Revolutionary <br />War, the War Between the States, and into the Space Age <br />of the 20th Century; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the <br />prosperous future <br />many resources of <br /> <br />City of Hampton is anticipating a <br />through continued development of the <br />this community; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Portsmouth <br />share with their neighbors in Hampton a sense of pride in <br />the accomplishments of the past and a spirit of <br />renaissance for the future development of their cities. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the 375th anniversary <br />of the City of Hampton be, and the same hereby is, <br />commemorated by the adoption of this resolution. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and <br />she hereby is, directed to forward a copy of this <br />resolution to the Mayor and Members of Council of the <br />City of Hampton. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held July 23, 1985. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
