to quarantine such animal in the manner set forth in this <br />section for a period of two (21 weeks unless sooner released <br />by consent of the director of public health. <br /> (c) By director of public health; inpound~ent fee. <br />the owner or ~erson having custody of such animal shall be <br />unwilling or ~nable to subject any animal to the quarantine <br />required by the director of public health as aforesaid, or <br />if, in the opinion of the director of public health, such be <br />necessary, it shall be the duty of the director of public health <br />to cause such animal to be impounded at the portsmouth ~u~ane <br />Society, Inc. facility for the quarantine period required, <br />and the owner or custodian of such animal shall pay the sum <br />of three dollars ($3.00) for each day or part thereof the <br />animal is so ~uarantined. <br /> (d) Inspection, removal of animal. Any animal ~uarantined <br /> pursuant to this section shall be so kept as to be reasonably <br /> available for inspection by any duty authorized officer of the <br /> department of public health at all reasonable times and shall <br /> not be removed by any person from the place of quarantine with- <br /> out the written consent of the director of public health. <br /> (e) Dying animal. If any animal shall die during the <br /> period of quarantine, and such animal is known to have bitten <br /> another animal or person at any time during a period of two <br /> weeks immediately preceeding the death of such animal, then <br /> it shall be the duty of the owner of person having legal custody <br /> of such biting animal to cause the brain of such animal to be <br /> examined for rabies at a recognized laboratory and to have the <br /> report of such laboratory made available to the director of <br /> public health. <br /> Section 4-65. Destruction, disposal of rabid animals. <br /> It shall be the duty of any person owning or having custody <br /> of any animal known to have rabies at once to cause such an!mal <br /> to be killed and to have the body buried or burned at a site <br /> approved by the director of public health. In the event of <br /> failure of the owner or person having custody of such animal <br /> to cause such animal to be killed, it shall be the duty of <br /> the animal warden upon request from the director of public <br /> health to cause such animal to be killed and the body buried <br /> or burned and to recover on behalf of the City of Portsmouth <br /> from the owner or person having custody of any animal known <br /> have rabies, the cost incurred for this service. <br /> <br /> <br />
