three dollars ($3.00) for the first day and one dollar ($1.00) <br />for each additional day or any part thereof to cover the cost <br />of maintaining a pen for such a dog and of the care and keep <br />of such dog and by exhibiting to the person in charge of the. <br />dog pound the receipt for the license fee required to be ~aid <br />by this Code. All such impounding fees shall be paid over to <br />the City Treasurer monthly. <br /> <br /> (d) Unredeemed dogs. If not redeemed within the above- <br />described five (5) day period, any dog impounded ~ursuant to <br />this section shall be disposed of, other than by ~ale, by the <br />Portsmouth Humane Society, Inc.. <br /> <br />Section 4-25. Vicious or dangerous dogs. <br /> <br /> It shall be unlawful for any person owning or having the <br />the custody of a vicious dog, or a dog deemed by the animal <br />warden dangerous to persons or animals, to permit such dog to <br />run at large, unless such dog shall be securely muzzled. <br /> <br />Section 4-26. Confinement of biting dog. <br /> <br /> Any dog which has bitten a person and which is not deemed <br />vicious by the chief of pol±ce or the animal warden shall, by <br />order of the chief of police or the animal warden of this <br />locality, or the director of public health, be confined to the <br />premises of its owner, keeper or custodian for such a period <br />as may be designated by the officer issuing such order for <br />not less than fourteen (14) days and not more than forty-five <br />(45) days; and during such confinement such dog shall not be <br />permitted to come into contact with other dogs. Any person <br />failing to comply with such order, after notice of same, shall <br />be guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor. <br /> <br />Section 4-27. Bitches in heat. <br /> <br /> No person shall permit any bitch in heat to go at large <br />in the street, or allow her to remain on his premises to the <br />annoyance of the neighborhood. The owner of any bitch violating <br />the Drov!slons of this section shall be guilty of a Class 4 <br />misdemeanor, and the bitch shall be taken into custody by <br />the animal warden, and if not redeemed by the payment of the <br />fine within twenty-four (24) hours, the bitch shall be <br />killed; but the killing of the bitch shall not exempt its <br />owner from the fine. <br /> <br />Section 4-44. Composition. <br /> <br /> A dog license shall consist of a license receipt and a <br />metal tag, and the tag shall be stamped or permanently marked <br />to show the name of the City of Portsmouth as the issuing authority, <br />the sex of the dog, the calendar year for which issued and <br />bear a serial number. <br /> <br /> <br />
