Section 31-239. Inclusion of former service as creditable service. Any person who was formerly a me~/ber of the system and who ceased to be a member upon becoming a member of the Virginia Supplemental Retirement System may, upon again becoming an e~ployee, be restored to membership in the system and have his previous time as a member counted as creditable service provided (1) he has remained in continuous service with the City and combined city-state office and (2) verification of previous time as a member can be shown subject %o the approval of the board. Creditable service for a period of membership in the Virginia Supplemental Retire- ment System is subject to the provisions of Section 31-241. Section 31-240. Inclusion of service in armed forces as creditable service. Any service of a member of the Armed Forces of the United States commencing in a period of war or national emergency, or as a result of or to anticipate conscription in other periods, shall be included as creditable service; provided, that the member was in service as an employee, immediately prior %o entry into such armed forces; and further provided, that he resumed service as an employee within ninety {90) days of the date on which he had the right of release from such armed forces, or within such longer period, if any as provided by the laws of the United States applicable thereto. Inclusion of Supplemental service. service under the Virginia Retirement System as creditable With respect to any member who was a member of the Vir- ginia Supplemental Retirement System immediately prior to his becoming a member of this system, and whose membership in the Virginia Supplemental Retirement System has ceased through withdrawal of his contributions thereunder, the period of time during which he was a member of the Virginia Supple- mental Retirement System may, in the discretion of the board, be included as creditable service hereunder, provided he pays into the retirement account, within one year of becoming a member, the amount of contributions he withdrew from the Virginia Supplemental Retirement System when he ceased to be a me~ber thereof, or, provided he pays into the retirement account an amount equal to the normal contribution and ac- crued liabili~y contributions percentages of creditable com- pensation that would have been paid had the person been a member during the period of his membership in the Virginia SupplemEntal Retirement System.
