AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING ARTICLE II CHAPTER 12 THEREOF, PERTAINING TO FIRE PREVENTION. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that Article II, Divisions 1 & 2 of Chapter 12 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended to read as follows: ARTICLE II. FIRE PREVENTION DIVISION I. GENERALLY SECTION 12-18: Code Adopted. Pursuant to Code of Virginia, Section 27-5.1, there is hereby adopted by the City Council for the purpose of prescribing regulations governing conditions hazardous to life and property from fire or explosion that a certain code known as the Fire Prevention Code called THE BOCA BASIC/NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION CODE, 1984 Edition and all appendices thereto, save and except such portions as are hereinafter deleted, modified or amended, and the same is hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein, and the provisions thereof shall be controlling within the limits of the City. SECTION 12-19: SAME-DEFINITIONS. (a) WHERE THE WORD "JURISDICTION" IS USED IN THE FIRE PREVENTION CODE, HEREBY ADOPTED, IT SHALL BE HELD TO MEAN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH. (b) THE TERM "FIRE LANES" IN ~201 OF THE BOCA BASIC/NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION CODE, 1984 EDITION, SHALL BE ~AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS: ~. "Fire lanes" shall mean an area designated by clearly ,-~visible signs in which parking shall be prohibited, whether on public or private property, to ensure ready access to fire fighting equipment and facilities. (c) THE TERM "OCCUPANT" BASIC/NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION AMENDED AS FOLLOWS: IN SF-201 OF THE BOCA CODE, 1984 EDITION, SHALL BE "Occupant" shall mean any person physically located or situated in or on any property, structure, space or vehicle irrespective of the length of time or the reason for such occupancy.
