and in a condition to be clearly legible. No covering <br />of any type which has the effect of altering the <br />appearance of the license plate may be placed upon or <br />ove~ the license plate. Insi§nia, emblems, or trailer <br />hitches or couplings shall not be mounted in such a way <br />that any portion of the license is illegible. <br /> <br />Section 23-520. Width of vehicles and exceptions as to <br /> size. <br /> <br /> Except as otherwise provided in §23-520.1, no <br />vehicle, including any load thereon, but excluding the <br />required mirror, shall exceed a total outside width as <br />follows: <br /> <br />(a Passenger bus operated in the City-One hundred <br />two(102 inches. <br /> <br /> (b School buses-One hundred(100) inches wide <br />while In motion and one hundred eighteen(il8) inches <br />wide while stopped to pick up or discharge students. <br /> <br /> (c) Other vehicles-Ninety-six(96) inches with <br />safety devices not to exceed three(3) inches on each <br />side of the vehicle, excluding ~ear view mirrors. <br /> <br />Section 23-523. Length of vehicles; special permits. <br /> <br /> No moto~ vehicle exceeding a length of forty(40) <br />feet shall De operated on any highway in the city; <br />providing however, the city manager or his designee, <br />may, by general o~ special o~er, which may be amended <br />or rescinded from time to time, permit the operation of <br />passenger buses in excess of thirty-five(35) feet but <br />not exceeding forty(40) feet on certain highways and <br />parts thereof designated by the city manager. The <br />actual length of any combination of vehicles coupled <br />together including any load thereon, shall not exceed a <br />total of sixty(60) feet; and no tolerance shall be <br />allowed that exceeds twelve(12) inches; provided <br />further, however, that the city manager or his designee <br />in cases of emergency may Issue a special permit for <br />combinations in excess of sixty(60) feet including any <br />load thereon, where the object or objects to De carried <br />cannot De moved otherwise; provided further, that <br />vehicles designed and used exclusively fo~ <br />transportation of motor vehicles may have an additional <br />overhang not to exceed five(5) feet. Passenger buses <br />may exceed the forty-foot limitation when such excess <br />length is caused by the projection of a front safety <br />bumpe~ or a rear safety bumper or both. Such safety <br />bumpe~ shall not cause the length of the bus to exceed <br />the maximum legal limit by more than one foot in the <br />front and one foot in the Pear.
