AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 35 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, AS AMENDED, BY ADDING THERETO <br />SECTION 35-9 PERTAINING TO PAYMENT OF TAXES BY USE OF CREDIT <br />CARD. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Chapter 35 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended by adding thereto <br />~35-9, such new section to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 35-9. Payment of taxes by use of credit card. <br /> <br /> Any local taxes or fees authorized and imposed by this <br />Code may be paid by use of a credit card approved by the <br />City Manager who shall prescribe the rules and regulations <br />pertaining to the acceptance of credit cards. In addition <br />to any penalties and interest arising pursuant to law, there <br />shall be added to such payment a sum not to exceed four {4) <br />percent of the amount of the tax, penalty and interest paid, <br />as a service charge for acceptance-of such card. Such <br />service charge shall not exceed the percentage charged to <br />the City by the credit card company. <br /> <br /> 2. That this ordinance shall take effect sixty (60) <br />days from the date of its adoption. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held August 25, 1987. <br /> <br /> Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
