93 A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CONCERN OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH TO THE PROPOSED RELOCATION OF PORTSMOUTH GENERAL HOSPITAL TO A LOCATION OUTSIDE THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH. WHEREASr the members of the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, have received information indicating that the Board of Directors of Portsmouth General Hospital was contemplating the sale of Portsmouth General Hospital which may result in the relocation of that medical facility to a location outside the boundaries of the City of Portsmouth; and WHEREAS, Portsmouth General Hospital has, since the turn of the Century, provided exemplary health care to the citizens of this City; and WHEREAS, the provision of health care is a major component in determining the quality of life being provided for the citizens of a City; and WHEREAS, the relocation of Portsmouth General Hospital to a location outside the City would remove from the central core of this City the means to assure the availability of convenient health care to our expanding population. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of PortsmOuth, Virginia expresses its concern to the proposed relocation of Portsmouth General Hospital to a location outside the boundaries of this City and expresses its intention to enunciate its~position at such time and in such forums as appropriate. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager and the City Attorney are directed to monitor this matter with full authority to take whatever steps are necessary to exDress the Council's position at such time and in such forums as they deem appropriate, and that the City Clerk be, and she hereby is, directed to forward copies of this Resolution to all appropriate persons.
