A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN <br />APPLICATION FOR FUNDING UNDER THE VIRGINIA SHELTER GRANTS <br />PROGRAM. <br /> <br />43 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of <br />Housing and Co~unity Development, has issued a Notice of <br />Funding Availability and Request for Proposals under the <br />Virginia Shelter Grants Program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, grants are available to local units of <br />government that may then distribute such funds to nonprofit <br />recipients; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, an application for a grant under this Program <br />has been prepared to permit the HER Shelter to receive <br />funds to pay for utilities, repair and replace plumbing <br />fixtures and drywall, construct shelving, purchase a <br />storage shed, construct a fence and acquire tools and <br />equipment for yard maintenance; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the application requests nineteen thousand <br />thirty ($19,030) dollars in federal funds f~r repair and <br />maIntenance and a one for one local match will be provided <br />from the HER Shelter operating budget. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager be, and <br />he hereby is, authorized to submit an application for an <br />Emergency Shelter Care Program Grant on behalf of the HER <br />Shelter and to execute any documents as may be required <br />thereby. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, V~rginla authorizes the:awarding of a sub-grant <br />to the HER Shelter to operate the funded project and agrees <br />to monitor and oversee their activities as prescribed by <br />the grant. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia at a meeting held April 28, 1987. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
