A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO FILE AN APPLICATION FOR A CHESAPEAKE BAY YOUTH CONSERVATION CORPS GRANT TO CONDUCT EROSION CONTROL PROJECTS ALONG CRAWFORD PARKWAY, BAYVIHW BOULEVARD AND AT PORTSMOUTH SLEEPY HOLE PARK AND GOLF COURSE. WHEREAS, the Virginia Division of Parks and Recreation of the Department of Conservation and Historic Resources of the Commonwealth of Virginia have established the Chesapeake Bay Youth Conservation Initiatives Program; and WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth is eligible to submit a Grant Application for State funds to conduct erosion control projects along Crawford Parkway, Bayview Boulevard and at Portsmouth Sleepy Hole Park and Golf Course; and WHEREAS, these areas border tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay and the stabilization of these shore lines will improve water quality and the aquatic habitat. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia that it does hereby endorse the application to be submitted for a Chesapeake Bay Youth Conservation Corps Grant for Thirty-Nine Thousand, Nine Hundred Eighty-Nine Dollars ($39,989) to fund twenty (20) students and two (2) supervisors to conduct erosion control projects, and marsh enhancement along Crawford Parkway, Bayview Boulevard and at Portsmouth Sleepy Hole Park and Golf Course and gives its assurances that the general provisions of the applicable regulations governing the expenditure of these funds will be complied with in the administration of the pro]ect. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, tha% the City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to file said application for the Grant certifying compliance by the City of Portsmouth with the appropriate regulations governing the administration and use of funds.
