AN ORDINANCE TO ~END CHAPTER 6, CHAPTER 14, CHAPTER 17, AND <br />CHAPTER 39 OF THE CCDE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, <br />1973, AS AMENDED PERTAINING TO ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES AND <br />GENERAL SERVICES. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 6-24, 6-30, 6-31, and 6-43 be amended <br />and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 6-24. <br /> <br />Administration and enforcement of Article; <br />adoption by reference of Virginia Uniform <br />Statewide Building Code Volume II. <br /> <br /> There is hereby adopted by the City Council for the <br />purpose of prescribing minimum standards for occupancy and use <br />of existing strucDures, that certain Code known as the <br />Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code Volume II, and the <br />whole thereof, save and except for such portions as are <br />hereinafter deleted, modified or amended, and the same is <br />hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if see out in <br />length herein. The provisions of this article shall be <br />administered and enforced as set forth in the Uniform <br />Statewide Building Code and, in addition, shall be <br />administered and enforced by the Director of Environmental <br />Services or his designee. The Director of Environmental <br />Services is hereby designated as the Code Official under this <br />Code. <br /> <br />Section 6-30. Notice to abate nuisance. <br /> <br /> Whenever the Code Official shall find any structure, <br />house or dwelling place or portion thereof to be unsafe as <br />defined in Section 6-29 of this Code, he shall give the owner, <br />agent for the owner or person in control of such building or <br />structure, written notice. This notice shall require the <br />owner, agent for the owner or person in control of such <br />building within a stated time to complete improvements or <br />demolish or remove the building, structure or portion thereof. <br /> <br />Section 6-31. Abatement by Code Official upon failure of <br /> owner to comply, etc. <br /> <br /> In addition to other remedies provided by law, if an <br />owner, agent for the owner, or person in control of such <br />building fails, refuses or neglects to comply with the notice <br />of the Code official as provided in Section 6-30, the Code <br />Official shall ascertain the cost to demolish and remove said <br /> <br /> <br />
