1988-100 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING CHAPTER 2 THEREOF, BY ADDING A NEW <br />ARTICLE XII PERTAINING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A HUMAN <br />RELATIONS COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA. <br /> <br /> BE iT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />virginia: <br /> 1. That the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />1973, be amended by amending Chapter 2 thereof, by adding <br />thereto a new Article XII, such amended and new Article to <br />read as follows: <br /> <br /> ARTICLE XII. Human Relations Commission <br /> <br />Section 2-261. Established. <br /> There is hereby established a Commission to be known as <br />the Human Relations Co,mission. <br />Section 2-262. Composition; appointment and term of members. <br /> The Human Relations Commission shall consist of twelve <br />(12) members who shall be appointed by the City Council. The <br />members of the Commission shall be appointed for terms of <br />three (3) years; provided, however, of those first appointed <br />four (4) shall be appointed for two (2) years, four (4) for <br />three (3) years, and four (4) for one (1) year. The members <br />shall hold office during their respective terms and until <br />their successors are appointed. <br /> <br /> Section 2-263. Vacancies in membership. <br /> <br /> All vacancies on the Commission shall be filled by City <br /> Council for the unexpired portion of the term. <br /> <br />Section 2-264. <br /> <br /> Any member <br />Council at any <br /> <br />Section 2-265. <br /> <br /> Removal of members. <br /> <br />of the Commission may be removed by the City <br />time. <br /> <br /> Election of officers and adoption of rules, <br /> regulations. <br /> <br /> The Commission shall elect annually a Chairman, Vice <br />Chairman and Secretary from among its members and shall adopt <br />such rules, regulations and by-laws as it shall deem necessary <br />for the proper and efficient conduct of its business. <br /> <br /> <br />
