vehicles, which lamps shall at all times be capable of being <br />lighted, except as herein otherwise provided. This subsection <br />shall no~ apply to any vehicle used for transporting <br />well-drilling machinery licensed under Section 46.2-700 of the <br />Code of Virginia, when operated only between the hours of <br />sunrise and sunset. <br /> <br />Section 22-183. <br /> <br />When lights to be lighted; <br />to be lighted at any time; <br />lights. <br /> <br />number of lights <br />use of warning <br /> <br /> (f) High-intensity amber flashing lights, visible for at <br />least five hundred I500) feet, as prescribed by the <br />superintendent, shall also be required for use on any vehicle <br />which is engaged in eithsr escorting, or towing <br />overdimensional materials, equipment, boats, or manufactured <br />housing units by authority of a highway hauling permit <br />pursuant to Section 46.2-1139 of the Code of Virginia. Such <br />lights shall be mounted on the tops of the escort and tow <br />vehicles and on the upper rear end of the overdimensional <br />vehicle or load for maximum visibility, front and rear. <br />However, a vehicle operating by authgrity of a permit issued <br />pursuan5 to Section 46.2-1139 of the Code of Virginia shall be <br />deemed to be in compliance with the requirements of this <br />section if it is accompanied by escort vehicles. The <br />provisions of this subdivision shall apply to vehicles or <br />loads which are either more than twelve (12) feet wide or more <br />than seventy-five (75) feet long. <br /> <br /> (j) Unless such lighting device is both covered and not <br />illuminated, no motor yehicle which is equipped with any <br />lighting device other than lamps required or permitted in this <br />division or Title 46.2 of the Code of Virginia or required or <br />approved by the superintendent of state police or required by <br />the federal department of transportation shall be operated on <br />any highway in the city. Nothing in this subdivision shall be <br />construed to permit any vehicle not otherwise authorized, to <br />be equipped with colored emergency lights, whether blinking or <br />steady burning. <br /> <br />Section 22-215. Brakes on trailers and other towed vehicles. <br /> <br /> (a) Every semitrailer or trailer or separate vehicle <br />attached by a drawbar, chain or coupling to a towing vehicle <br />other than a farm tractor or a vehicle not required to obtain <br />an annual registration certificate for license plates under <br />Sections 46.2-663 through 46.2-674 of the Code of Virginia, <br />and having an actual gross weight of three thousand (3,000) <br />pounds or more, shall be equipped with brakes controlled or <br />operated by the driver of the towing vehicle which shall <br />conform ~o the specifications set forth in Section 22-212 and <br />shall be of a type approved by the superintendent of state <br />police. Provided, however, that farm trailers used <br />exclusively for hauling raw agricultural produce from farm to <br /> <br /> <br />
