Sirens, or exhaust whistles or air horn on emergency vehicles. Every police vehicle, every vehicle authorized to be equipped with emergency lights pursuant to Section 46.2-1023 of the code of Virginia, and every vehicle used for the purpose of fighting fires and every ambulance or rescue vehicle used for emergency calls shall be equipped with a siren, exhaust whistle or air horn designed to give automatically intermittent signals of a type not prohibited by the superintendent of state police.
