AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 8 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, 1988, BY ADDING TO ARTICLE I THEREOF SECTIONS <br />8-1 THROUGH 8-15 GRANTING A FRANCHISE TO COX CABLE HAMPTON <br />ROADS, INC. TO CONSTRUCT, OPERATE AND MAINTAIN A CABLE <br />TELEVISION~SYSTEM IN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Article I of Chapter 8 of the Code of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, read as follows: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. STATEMENT OF INTENT AND PURPOSE. <br /> <br /> 1.01 Statement of Intent and Purpose. The City <br />intends, by the adoption of this Franchise, to bring about <br />the continued operation and expansion of a cable television <br />system for the City of Portsmouth. The operation of a <br />cable television system can contribute significantly to <br />meeting the communications needs and desires of many <br />individuals, associations and institutions. <br /> <br /> 1.02 Award Fee and Franchising Costs. Grantee shall <br />reimburse the City,or all reasonable costs not to exceed <br />$10,000, including attorney's fees and publication fees, <br />expended in the soliciting, processing and awarding of the <br />Franchise. Payment shall be made by Grantee to the City <br />upon presentation of proper invoices substantiating the <br />cost at the time of acceptance of this Franchise as set <br />forth in Section 15.02 hereof. <br /> <br /> <br />
