The board shall consist of not less than three (3) <br />members appointed by the city council. Members of the board <br />shall be appointed for three-year terms, except that on the <br />initial appointmeat, one (1) shall be appointed for one (1) <br />year, one (1) for two (2) years, and one (1) for three (3) <br />years. A vacancy on the board shall be filled by the council <br />for the unexpired term. <br /> <br /> 8. That Section 19-76 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1988, as amended, be amended to read as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Section 19-76. Board-established; composition. <br /> <br /> There is hereby created a board to be known as the law <br />library board, which shall consist of five (5) members. The <br />city attorney shall be an ex-o~ficio member of such board, and <br />the remaining four (41 members shall be appointed by the city <br />council. Two (2) of the appointed members of such board shall <br />be practicing attorneys, one (1) shall be a judge of one (1) <br />of the courts loca.ted within the city, and one (1) shall be a <br />qualified person as provided for in Section 2-28(A), who is <br />not a licensed attorney and not an official or employee of any <br />court located within the city. <br /> <br /> 9. That Section <br />Pcrtsmouth, Virginia, <br />follows: <br /> <br /> 22-48 of the Code of the City of <br />1988, as amended, be amended to read <br /> <br />as <br /> <br />Section 22-48. <br /> <br />Composition; appointment and terms of <br />members; vacancies. <br /> <br /> The commission shall consist o~ nine (9) members. The <br />members of the commission shall be appointed by the city <br />council. The commission shall consist of at least one (1) <br />person from each of the following classes: city council~ <br />school system; police, judiciary or traffic engineering; and <br />medical service field. The terms of the initial members of <br />the commission shall commence on November 1, 1968. Of the <br />initial appointments, three (3) shall be for terms of one (1) <br />year, three (3) for two (2) years, and three (3) for three (3) <br />years. At the expiration of such terms, their successors <br />shall be appointed for terms of three (3) years. Any person <br />who is appointed to represent one (1) of the four (4) classes <br />enumerated above and who shall cease to be a member of such <br />class, shall forthwith cease to be a member of the commission <br />~nless there shall at that time be another representative of <br />such class on the commission. All vacancies shall be filled <br />by appointment for the remainder of the unexpired term. <br /> <br /> <br />
