WHEREAS, the Navy Memorandum seeks to cons~lld~t~e <br />thirty-four (34) RDT&E activities including, but not limited <br />to, the (1) Fleet Combat Direction Systems Support Activity, <br />Dam Neck, Virginia Beach, V~rginla ("FCDSSA"); (2) Naval Sea <br />Combat Systems EngIneering Station~ Norfolk, Virginia <br />("SEABAT"); (3) Naval Electronic Systems Engineering Center, <br />Portsmouth, Virginia ("NAVELEX"); and (4) Naval Mine Warfare <br />Engineering Activity, Yorktown, Virginia (NMWEA"), into four <br />(4) Warfare Centers; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Navy Memorandum requires that detailed plans <br />for overall downsizing and consolidating these activities be <br />prepared on or before April 15, 1991; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the economy and citizens of the City of <br />Portsmouth, may be affected by such consolidation and <br />realignment. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the CoUncil'of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, hereby expresses its concern <br />aboat the possible effect of the proposed realignment and <br />consolidation by the Navy on the Hampton Roads economy and its <br />citizens and resolves to take whatever actions are necessary <br />to promote the best interests of the Department of the Navy <br />and the citizens of the City of Portsmouth in this ~ealignment <br />and consolidation process. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER ~ESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she <br />hereby is, directed to forward copies of this Resolation to <br />the Virginia Delegation of the Un~ted States Congress, <br />the Secretary of the Defense, and President of-the United <br />States. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of PortsmoUth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held March 12, 1991. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
