44 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING APPROVAL OF REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE <br />COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA FOR THE CONSTRUCTION COSTS OF THE <br />HAMPTON ROADS REGIONAL JAIL. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />has duly considered the advantages of a regional jail with the <br />Cities of Chesapeake and Norfolk as provided in Section 53.1-105 <br />of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Cities of Portsmouth, Chesapeake, and Norfolk <br />intend to create a regional jail authority which will have its <br />own powers and authority to construct and operate the Hampton <br />Roads Regional Jail either within or outside of Portsmouth's <br />corporate boundaries; and <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, the general purpose of the Hampton Roads Regional <br />Jail Authority shall be that of constructing, equipping, <br />maintaining, and operating a 1008 bed regional jail; enlarging, <br />renovating, and improving such facilities; acquiring the <br />necessary property therefore; and doing any and all things <br />deemed by the authority necessary, convenient, and desirable for <br />the efficient and proper development and operation of such types <br />of undertakings; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS. the preliminary estimate of the capital costs of <br />constructing the Hampton Roads Regional Jail is Sixty-Five <br />Million Two Hundred Two Thousand and 00/100 Dollars <br />($65,202,000.00), not including costs of acquiring land. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Ci%y of Portsmouth hereby <br />requests reimbursement from the Comr~onwealth of Virginia for the <br />construction costs of the Hampton Roads Regional Jail pursuant <br />to Section 53.1-81 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />at a meeting held August 27, 1991. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
