<br /> SCRAP PROCESSOR. Any business engaged in the purchase, eollec~on or s~vage
<br />of scrap metals for the specific purpose of processing said metals for the metals
<br />recovery indust~, and having and us~g mae~nery and fae~fies desired for such
<br />processing and ma~ng re~lar s~pments of such processed scrap materials in the
<br />normal course of bus,ess.

<br /> SETBACK. The ~nimum distance from a property line to the nearest part of a
<br />building or s~rueture. Such distance is measured by a line w~ch is perpendicular
<br />to the lot Hne. Where a "yard" or "yard setback" is required~ the setback d~ension
<br />is the same as the ~mum yard dimension.

<br /> SIGN. Any surface, fabric, display, de~ee, fi~re, painting~ draw~g, message,
<br />placard, poster, billboard, or other structure w~eh is desired, intended or used
<br />to advertise or i~orm, any part of the advertising or informative contents of wMch
<br />is visible f~m any public stree~ or from any public or private property other than
<br />the zone lot on w~eh it is located.

<br /> SIGN, BANNER. Any sign hung either with or ~thout frames, possessing
<br /> characters, letters, illustrations, or ornamentations applied to paper, plastic or

<br /> Portsmouth or symbolic flags of any institution or business shall not be considered
<br /> banners for the purposes of t~s Chapter.

<br /> SIGN, CHANGEABLE COPY. A sign that is desired so that characters, letters or
<br /> iHustratio~ can be changed or rearranged, mechanically, manually, electric~ly or
<br /> electro~cally, without altering the face or the surface of the sign.

<br /> SIGN, FREESTANDING. Any si~ w~ch is supported by a structure or supports
<br /> in or upon the ground, and which is independent of support from any b~lding or
<br /> other structure.
<br />
<br /> SIGN, INCIDENTAL. Any sign w~eh has no ~dependent purpose but w~ch has
<br /> a purpose ~cidental to the use of the zone lot. Not by way of H~mtion but by way
<br /> of example, "no paring," "ent~nce," "loading only" and other si~lar si~s on
<br /> private property are incidental s~gns.
<br />
<br /> SIGN, ~RQUEE. Any si~ attached to and made a part of a marquee. A marquee
<br /> is defined as a permanent roof-Hke structure projecting beyond a b~ding or
<br /> extend~g along and projecting beyond the building's wall and gene~Hy desired
<br /> and eonst~cted to provide protection a~inst weather.

<br /> SIGN, OFF-PREMISES. Any s~gn that draws attention to or commu~eates
<br /> i~ormation about a business, service, commodity, product, event or any good or
<br /> activity ~hat is conducted, sold or offered at a location other than the presses on
<br /> w~ch the si~ is located.

<br /> SIGN, ON-PRaISES. Any sign w~ch is not an off-pre~ses, incident~ or real
