1992-81 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE PERMITTING FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICERS IN THE <br />CLASSIFIED SERVICE EMPLOYED BY THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA TO ENGAGE IN OFF-DUTY EMPLOYMENT REQUIRING THE USE OF <br />THEIR POLICE POWERS AND AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE 30 <br />ESTABLISH SUCH RULES AND REGULATIONS NECESSARY TO GOVERN SUCH <br />OFF-DUTY EMPLOYMENT, ACTIVITIES, AND SERVICES. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, that in accordance with Section 15.1-133.1 of the <br />Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, full-time police officers <br />in the classified service employed by the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, are permitted to engage in off-duty employment which <br />may occasionally require the use of their police powers in the <br />performance of such off-duty activities and services. The <br />Chief of Police of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, is <br />authorized to establish such reasonable rules and regulations <br />as may be deemed necessary to govern such off-duty employment, <br />activities, and services. The law enforcement powers and <br />authorities invested in police officers by the Code of <br />Virginia and the Code of the City of Portsmouth and the <br />Portsmouth City Charter include the power and duty to enforce <br />the criminal laws of Virginia and the ordinances of this city, <br />whether or not during service on an assigned duty shift in <br />accordance with the rules, regulations and orders prescribed <br />and promulgated by the Chief of Police and pursuan5 to the <br />Code of Virginia, Code of the City of Portsmouth and the <br />Portsmouth City Charter. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held October 13, 1992. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
