42 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE NECESSITY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A <br />NEW WATER TRANSMISSION MAIN IN THE CITY OF SUFFOLK TO SERVE THE <br />CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Director of Public Utilities for the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, has recommended the construction of a new <br />water transmission main from the City's water plant in the City <br />of Suffolk to connect with existing lines belonging to the City <br />of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council, after duly published notice, <br />conducted a public hearing on April 28, 1992, on the necessity <br />for the construction of the proposed water transmission main; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council has determined, after said public <br />hearing, that the water transmission capacity of the existing <br />transmission main was reached in approximately 1988-1989; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, additional water will be required for the expected <br />development of the City's port area, the Cox property in <br />Churchland, and other vacant land throughout the city; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council has also determined that <br />approximately eighty percent (80%) of the water transmitted in <br />the new main will serve water customers within the boundaries of <br />the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, and it is hereby declared, that an <br />immediate need exists for the construction of the proposed wa~er <br />transmission main from the City of Suffolk in order to meet the <br />needs of the citizens of the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmou%h, Virginia, <br />at a meeting held April 28, 1992. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
