AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 30 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988), BY AMENDING SECTION 30-52 THEREOF <br />PERTAINING TO THE COF~POSITION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE <br />PORTSMOUTH SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 30-52 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia (1988), be amended no read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 30-52. Composition; appointment, term, suspension <br /> or removal and compensation of members; vacancies. <br /> <br /> The board shall consist of nine (9) members no be <br />appointed by the City Council and nwo (2) ex officio members. <br />One (1) ex officio member shall be the director of finance or <br />his designee and the other ex officio member shall be the <br />director of personnel or his designee. Of the voting members, <br />one (1) shall be an employee who is a member of the Portsmouth <br />Supplemental Retirement System, one (1) shall be an employee <br />of the fire deparumenu, one (1) shall be an employee of the <br />police department, one (1) shall be a retired employee and five <br />(5) shall be other than employees or otherwise in the employ of <br />the city. Each appointment shall be made for a uerm of four (4) <br />years, except an appointment ~o fill a vacancy which shall be <br />for the unexpired term. Members who are employees of the <br />deparumenu from which an appointment shall be made may propose <br />names of the employees for consideration of council. The <br />council may suspend or remove any member of the board au its <br />pleasure. A member of the board who is non an employee or <br />otherwise in the employ of the city shall receive as his <br />compensation hen dollars ($10.00) per day for each day or parn <br />thereof actually spent in the discharge of his duties. A member <br />who is in the employ of the city shall receive as his <br />compensation ten dollars ($10.00) for each day or parn thereof <br />actually spenu in the discharge of his duties if such day or <br />part thereof is non otherwise a part of the regular working <br />hours of the employee. No member shall receive as compensation <br />in the aggregane more than one hundred uwenuy dollars ($120.00) <br />in any one (1) year. Members shall be reimbursed for the <br />expenses incurred by them lu the performance of their duties. <br /> <br /> 2.
