Private swimming pool. Any structure that contains water <br />over 24 inches (610 mm) in depth and which is used, or intended <br />to be used, for swimming or recreational bathing only by the <br />family and guests of the resident in connection with a <br />residential occupancy classified as Use Group R-3 under the <br />Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. This includes <br />residential in-ground, above-ground and on-ground swimming <br />pools, hot tubs and spas. <br /> <br /> Public pool or public swimming pool. Any pool, <br />a private swimming pool. <br /> <br /> other than <br /> <br /> Water slides/rides. Combination of pools and immersion <br />troughs carrying water from pool to pool. <br /> <br /> Wading pool. A pool designed for wading or partial <br />immersion of the human body which is capable of impounding <br />water to a depth not greater than twenty-four (24) inches (0.6 <br />meter) and which is separate from any other pool within the <br />facility. <br /> <br /> Spa and hot tubs. Public pools designed for recreational <br />or quasi-therapeutic use for physiological and psychological <br />relaxation that include but are not limited to: hydrojet <br />circulation, hot water, cold water, mineral baths, air <br />induction systems or any combination of these. <br /> <br />Sec. 34-4. Plans, construction and inspection. <br /> <br /> (a) A person proposing to construct, reconstruct or alter <br />a public swimming pool or auxiliary structure or equipment <br />shall submit legible plans and specifications to the <br />administrative authority for review and written approval prior <br />to the issuance of any building, plumbing or electrical permit. <br /> <br /> (b) The administrative authority may require the <br />submission of such additional information as may be required to <br />determine the compliance of plans and specifications submitted <br />for approval. <br /> <br /> (c) within ten (10) days of the receipt of final plans <br />and specifications, the administrative authority shall notify <br />the person submitting the plans and specifications of their <br />approval or disapproval. <br /> <br /> In addition to these regulations, all applicable <br />ordinances, including but not limited to plumbing, building, <br />electrical and zoning shall also apply in the construction, <br />maintenance and operation of all public swimming pools. <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br /> <br />
