Sec. 34-40. Lifeguards. <br /> <br /> There shall be at least one (1) lifeguard on duty at all <br />times when the public pool is of two thousand (2,000) square <br />feet (185.79 meters2) of water surface or more and when open <br />for use. <br /> <br /> Public pools which are less than two thousand (2,000) <br />square feet (185.79 meters2) may be used by adults, or children <br />supervised by adults, without a designated lifeguard, provided <br />it is posted as follows: "WARNING: No lifeguard on duty. <br />Children under the age of fourteen (14) shall not be allowed to <br />use a pool without an adult in attendance." <br /> <br /> Any individual retained as a lifeguard for public pools of <br />two thousand (2,000) square feet (185.79 meters~) or more shall <br />possess a current certification for meeting the standard of a <br />lifesaver as recommended by the American Red Cross, YMCA or <br />ocher accredited agency for lifesaving personnel. <br /> <br /> The ratio of lifeguards to bathers shall <br />lifeguard on duty for the first sevenEy-five (75) <br />an additional lifeguard for every additional <br />bathers, or fraction thereof.
