AN ORDINANCE CLOSING PORTIONS OF QUEEN STREET, LOCKPORT STREET (FORMERLY <br />LONDON STREET) WILLIAMSBURG AVENUE (FORMERLY SECOND AVENUE), LONDON <br />STREET, YORKTOWN AVENUE (FORMERLY FOURTH AVENUE OR GRACE STREET), ALL <br />ALLEYS LOCATED NORTH OF HIGH STREET AND SHOWN ON A PLAT RECORDED IN THE <br />CLERK'S OFFICE FOR THE CIRCUIT COURT OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA IN MAP <br />BOOK 1, AT PAGE 41, WEST LANE, AND A 15 FOOT LANE AS DESCRIBED IN DEED BOOK 140 <br />AT PAGE 281. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, desires to vacate, dose and discontinue the <br />hereinafter described streets, alleys, and lanes; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by a resolution of this Council adopted on March 28, 1995, viewers were appointed <br />pursuant to Section 15.1-364 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, to view the hereinafter described <br />portion of said streets, alleys, and lanes and to report in writing whether in their opinion any, and ff any <br />what, inconvenience would result ~rom discontinuing said streets, alleys, and lanes; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the said viewers have reported in writing that in their opinion, no inconvenience <br />would result in the closing and discontinuing the streets, alleys and lanes described herein. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that <br />the portions of the streets, a]ieys and lanes hereinafter described be closed and vacated as pubhc streets, <br />alleys and lanes: <br /> <br />PORTION OF @UEEN STREET <br /> <br />ALL THAT certain portion of Queen Street varying in width and <br />beginning South 87° 0t' 23" West, a distance of 154.06 feet from the <br />intersection of Queen Street and Jamestown Avenue (formerly Fifth <br />Avenue or Virginia Avenue) and thence extending in an easterly <br />direction to the western right of way line of Peninsula Avenue (formerly <br />First Avenue) a distance of approximately 1428.69 feet. <br /> <br />PORTION OF YORKTOWN AVENUE <br /> <br />ALL THAT certain portion of Yorktown Avenue (formerly Fourth <br />Avenue or Grace Street) being 60 feet in width and beginning at the <br />intersection of Yorktown Avenue with the north right of way line of High <br />Street and thence extending in a northward direction a distance of <br />approximately 554.73 feet to the Southern boundary line of those certain <br />parcels of property conveyed to the City of Portsmouth, Virginia by <br />deeds recorded in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia in Deed Book 140 at page 281, and in Deed Book <br />140 at page 106. <br /> <br />PORTION OF LOCKPORT STREET <br /> <br />AIJ, THAT certain portion of Loclqoort Street (formerly London Street) <br />being 60 feet in width and beginning at the western right of way hne of <br />Peninsula Avenue (formerly First Avenue) and thence extending in a <br />westerly direction a distance of approximately 360.28 feet to the eastern <br />right of way line of Williamsburg Avenue (formerly Second Avenue). <br /> <br /> <br />
