AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, vIRGINIA (1988) BY REPEALING SECTIONS 2-790 THROUGH 2-793 AND BY ADDING A NEW SECTION 2-790 THERETO, PERTAINING TO THE COMMUNITY CRIMINAL JUSTICE BOARD. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: 1. That Sections 2-790 through 2-793 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (1988) be repealed. 2. That there be added to the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (1988) a new'Article XXVI, entitled "Community Criminal Justice Board" and containing a new Section 2-790, to read as follows: Article XXVI. Community Criminal Justice Board. Sec. 2-790. Community Criminal Justice Board. There is hereby established by the City Council a board to be known as the Community criminal Justice Board. The appointments to the board shall be made by the City Council. The board shall not exceed fifteen (15) members and shall include representatives of the following: a judge of the general district court; a circuit court judge; a juvenile and domestic relations district court judge; the chief magistrate, the chief of police; an attorney for the Commonwealth; a public defender or an attorney who is experienced in the defense of criminal matters; a sheriff or regional jail administrator responsible for jails serving those involved in the community-based corrections program; a representative of local education, a representative of the Community Services Board, and up to five (5) citizens of the City. The board shall possess the powers and duties granted to it by Sections 53-180, et seq. of the Code of Virginia. 1995. That this ordinance shall take effect on July 1, Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held on June 13, 1995. Teste: City Clerk
