The grades assigned in the Alphabetical Listing of Job Titles <br />designate the salary range for each position with due respec5 to <br />1) the salary ranges for other classes, 2) the relative dif- <br />ficulty, responsibility, and characteristic duties of positions <br />in the class, 3) the minimum qualifications required, 4) the <br />prevailing rate paid for similar employment outside the City, and <br />5) any other factors that may properly be considered co have a <br />bearing upon the fa!rness or adequacy of the range. <br /> <br />The Salary Schedule shall contain a series of salary ranges, each <br />range having a minimum, mid-point/market rate, and maximum <br />salary. <br /> <br />The Compensation Plan shall be governed by the following <br />policies: <br /> <br /> a. Salary Adjustments for 1995-98 <br /> <br /> On and after July 1, 1995, the annual salary of any current <br /> classified employee that is less than uhe minimum range of <br /> the Salary Schedule will be adjusted to the minimum range, <br /> with the exception of certain part-time employees (indicated <br /> on the Alphabetical Listing of Job Titles by a "00" under <br /> Grade) who will receive the prevailing hourly minimum wage as <br /> established by the U.S. Department of Labor. <br /> <br />New Employees <br /> <br />All new employees are probationary for one year from their <br />original hire date and shall receive compensation according <br />no mhe classification in which they are placed. No employee <br />shall remain in a probationary status for more than one year. <br />Upon completion of one year of servmce, the employee will be <br />removed from probationary s~a~us or terminated. <br /> <br />No employee shall be hired au a rate above the minimum range <br />of the classification without the written approval of the <br />City Manager or his designee. Requests for exceptions must <br />be included on the Employee Selection Review Form for <br />positions covered under Administrative Policy Directive ~18, <br />entitled Employee Selection Review Procedure, and on the <br />referral form for positions not designated under that <br />directive. <br /> <br />c. Promotions <br /> <br />When an employee is promoted to a classification one grade <br />higher uhan the present classification, the employee will <br />receive an increase of 5% of uhe current salary. If the <br />promotion is two or more grades above the former classifica- <br />tion, the employee will receive an increase of 10% of the <br /> <br />-4- <br /> <br /> <br />
