AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 35-2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA DEALING WITH DUE DATE FOR PAYMENT OF TAXES <br />BY CERTAIN ELDERLY AND DISABLED PERSONS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> That subsection (b) of Section 35-2 of the Code of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia be and hereby is amended and <br />reordained as follows: <br /> <br /> (b) Notwithstanding subsection (a) of this section, city <br />taxes on real estate payable by persons qualifying as elderly <br />or disabled people for the exemption of real estate taxes <br />provided in division 2 and division 2.1 of article IV of this <br />chapter, shall be due and payable for each fiscal year <br />hereafter during the year for which the same are assessed in <br />four equal installments, as follows: one-fourth thereof on <br />October fifth, one-fourth thereon on January fifth, one-fourth <br />thereof on April fifth, and one-fourth thereof on July 5th. In <br />addition, any person who is sixty-five years old or older or <br />who is disabled shall, upon verification of same by the City <br />Treasurer, qualify for payment on said dates. <br /> <br /> This ordinance shall take effect on the date of its <br />adoption. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held on March 25, 1997. <br /> <br /> Teste: <br /> <br /> <br /> City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
