AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY ADDING THERETO A NEW ARTICLE <br />XXVII TO ESTABLISH A CLEAN COMMUNITY COMMISSION. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> !. That Chapter 2 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia (1988) be amended by adding thereto a new Article <br />XXVII to read as follows: <br /> <br />ARTICLE XXVII. CLEAN COMMUNITY COMMISSION <br /> <br />Sec. 2-800. Established. <br /> <br /> There is hereby established a commission to be known as <br />the Clean Community Commission. <br /> <br />Sec. 2-801. Membership of commission; terms. <br /> <br /> The commission shall be appointed by city council and <br />shall consist of not less than nine members, who shall be <br />citizens of the city or business or property owners in the <br />City. At least one member shall be appointed from each Clean <br />Community District established by the Department of <br />Community Quality and Planning Services. <br /> <br /> The members of the commission shall be appointed for terms <br />of three years, except that of the original commission, the <br />members appointed from Clean Community Districts 2, 4, 6, and 8 <br />shall be appointed for terms of two years. At the expiration <br />of the terms of the original commission members, their <br />successors shall be appointed for terms of three years. <br />Members shall hold office during their respective terms at the <br />pleasure of the city council and until their successors are <br />appointed. <br /> <br />Sec. 2-802. Purpose and duties of the commission. <br /> <br /> The commission shall have the purpose and duty of <br />enhancing community quality and liveability by the <br />encouragement and promotion of programs to clean up and <br />beautify neighborhoods throughout the City. <br /> <br /> <br />
