Sec. 37-30. Identification of taxicabs. <br /> <br /> All taxicabs operating in this city under this chapter shall have the word "Taxicab" or <br />"Taxi" or "Cab," the name of the owner, and the number of the certificate of public convenience <br />and necessity pursuant to which the taxicab is operated plainly and permanently lettered thereon. <br /> <br />Sec. 37-31. Refusal to respond to phone call or transport passenger. <br /> <br /> No driver or owner of a taxicab shall refuse to respond to any phone call or refuse to <br />transport an orderly passenger to any place within the city or one (1) mile of the limits thereof, <br />provided he is not otherwise engaged. <br /> <br />Sec. 37-32. Number of passengers. <br /> <br /> No taxicab shall be used to transport more than one (1) passenger at one time without the <br />consent of the person first engaging the vehicle. If the hirer of a taxicab consents to another <br />passenger occupying the vehicle with him or her, the passenger first arriv'mg at his or her <br />destination shall pay in accordance with the meter charge, whereupon the driver shall <br />immediately clear the taximeter and set the same for immediate operation for the next passenger <br />who shall pay the meter charge upon arrival at his or her destination. The same method shall be <br />followed for each succeeding passenger. When two (2) or more passengers are bona fide <br />traveling together to the same destination, the charge shall be made as if the taxicab had been <br />hired by one passenger. <br /> <br /> Paying passengers shall not be transported with nonpaying passengers without consent of <br />the person first engaging the vehicle. <br /> <br />Sec. 37-33. Transferring passengers. <br /> <br /> After a passenger has been seated in a taxicab, he shall not be transferred to another <br />taxicab to be carried to his destination except in an emergency. <br /> <br />Sec. 37-34. Transporting nonpaying passenger. <br /> <br /> No driver shall haul or transport any nonpaying passenger while on duty; provided that <br />any employee of a holder of a certificate of public necessity and convenience may be so <br />transported to and from work. <br /> <br />Sec. 37-35. Transportation of alcoholic beverages. <br /> <br /> It shall be unlawful for any person to use any public vehicle operated pursuant to this <br />article to transport alcoholic beverages, except when carried in the possession of a passenger who <br />is being ucansported for compensation at the regular rate charged other passengers. Any person <br />who violates or fails to comply with the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 1 <br /> 4 <br /> <br /> <br />
