R-01-79 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE PLANNING COMMISSION TO PREPARE <br />AN AMENDMENT TO THE CITY ZONING ORDINANCE TO PERMIT THE <br />REPLACEMENT OF EXISTING SIGNAGE ON MARTIN LUTHER KING <br />FREEWAY AND TO REPORT THE COMMISSION'S RECOMMENDATIONS <br />CONCERNING THE AMENDMENT TO CITY COUNCIL. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, at the City Council meeting on November 13, 2001, Adams Sign <br />Company reported to City Council that because of roadway improvements to Martin <br />Luther King Freeway, two of its billboard signs must be removed and cannot be relocated <br />under the current provisions of the Zoning Ordinance; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Adams Sign requested that the City Council amend the City Code to <br />permit such replacement; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council has no information as to whether such request is <br />advisable; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council desires that the Planning Commission draft and <br />consider such amendment[s) to the City Code as would be necessary to accomplish <br />Adams' request, and that the Commission report its recommendations concerning any <br />such change to the City Council in accordance with Section 15.2-2285 of the Code of <br />Virginia (1950) as amended. <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia that the Planning Commission be, and it hereby is, directed to take <br />all necessary actions to prepare and consider such amendment(s) to the City Code to <br />acconunodate the request by Adams Sign and any other similarly situated entity on <br />Martin Luther King Freeway and that the Commission report its findings and <br />recommendations to the City Council no later than I00 days after the Planning <br />Commission's December 2001 meeting, as required by the Code of Virginia. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED thai the City Clerk be, and she hereby is, <br />directed to mail a copy of this resolution to the Chairman of the Planning Commission <br />and to the City Planning Director. <br /> <br /> ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held <br />on November 27, 2001. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
