237 <br /> <br />June ~_ 1979 <br /> <br /> "Please be advised the School Board of the City of Portsmouth, at their regular meeting <br />on May 10, 1979, adopted the following resolution and directed that it be forwarded to City <br />Council: <br /> <br />'BE IT RESOLVED THAT the School Board of the City of Portsmouth respectfully requests <br />City Council to appropriate $10,000 to permit the city gngineering department to begin <br />signing and estimating building modification to conform to S~ction~S04.' <br /> <br />de <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mr. Barnes, the matter to be referred to the City <br />Manager, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 79-225,~Vice Mayor Holley offered the following names for appointments to the following <br />Board/Commission: <br /> <br />Citizens Advisory Committee <br /> <br /> Anne Hi Long and P. Marshall Fleming to be reappointed for a term of three years; Thom <br />Perry to be appointed for a term of three years, replacing Robert E. Spencer, Jr., and'all <br />appointments to expire June 1, 1982. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Oast and seconded by Mr. Barnes, that the above members be elected to the <br />CAC, there being no further nominations, nominations were closed, and was adopted by unanimous <br />vote, <br /> <br /> 79-226 Motion of Mr. Barnes <br />by the City Manager that his staff <br />June 29 through Wednesday, July 4, <br /> <br />79-227 The following remarks <br /> <br />and seconded by Mr. Gray, to ehdorse the recommendation <br />had recommended a Freedom FBstival to be held frov Fzi4ay, <br />in Portsmouth, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />were made by Mayor Davis: <br /> <br /> "Last week, President Carter proclaimed Vietnam Veterans Week, and the City of PortsmoUth <br />honored the Vietnam Veterans during last week's Memorial Day Parade. Tonki~k, I would like <br />to take a moment to remember those who served our country during a painful time in a bitter <br />war. Those who returned came home to a country fivided over the war. They never received <br />the welcome we showered upon returning veterans of past wars. La, week conveyed our gratitud <br />and our appreciation. <br /> <br /> In our prayers tonight, let us remember those who died and lived, and let us pray for <br />their families and friends and for America." <br /> <br />A moment of silent p~ayer was held. <br /> <br />On motion meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br /> Mayor <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
