<br />walks do not exist.

<br /> Certain abutting landowners have petitioned the City of Portsmouth for construction of
<br />a ~idewalk on Taze~ell Street and Greenwood Drive abutting 402, 403, 404, ~05, 406, and
<br />407 Tazewell Street and 3712 and 3800 Greenwood Drive. Notice has been delivered advising
<br />abutting landowners that a hearing would be held before City Council on January 22, 1980.
<br />75~ of the affected landowners have signed the petition in accordance with State law. The
<br />City Manager recommends adoption."

<br /> On motion of Mr. Beamer and seconded by Mr. Gray, the following resolution was adopted,
<br />and by the following vote:
<br />
<br />"A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CONSTRUCTION AND INSTALLATION OF SIDEWALKS
<br />ALONG TAZEWELL STREET FROM GREENWOOD DRIVE TO HANCOCK STREET ABUTTING
<br />402, 403, 404, 405, 406 AND 407 TAZEWELL STREET AND 5712 AND 3800 GREENWOOD
<br />DRIVE WHERE STANDARD SIDEWALKS DO NOT NOW EXIST, ASSESSING THE ABUTTING LAND
<br />OWNERS AT THE COST OF $3.00 PER FRONT LINEAL FOOT, AND DIRECTING THAT AN
<br />ABSTRACT OF THIS RESOLUTION BE RECORDED TOGETHER WITH A STATEMENT SHOWING
<br />THE ESTIMATED AMOUNT THAT WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST EACH SUCH LANDOWNER.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, by petition submitted in accordance with law certain abutting landowners have
<br />petitioned the City of Portsmouth to construct a sidewalk along Tazewell Street from Green-
<br />wood Drive to Hancock Street abutting 402, 403, 404, 405, 406 and 407 Tazewell Street and
<br />3712 and 3800 Greenwood Drive where standard sidewalks do not now exist, the cost thereof to
<br />be apportioned between the City and the abutting landowners; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, notice has been duly given to the
<br />that a hearing would be held before the Council
<br />at 7:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers; and
<br />
<br />abutting landowners, as provided by law,
<br />of the City of Portsmouth on January 22,
<br />
<br />19801,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, said hearing was duly held'and in the judgment of the Council the said sidewalk
<br />should be constructed.
<br />
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth:
<br />
<br /> Section 1: That the construction of a sidewalk along Tazewell Street from Greenwood
<br />Drive to Hancock Street abutting 402, 403, 404, 405; 406 and 407 TazewelI Street and 3712
<br />and 3800 Greenwood Drive, where standard sidewalks do not now exist, is hereby authorized.
<br />
<br /> Section 2: That the abutting landowners shall be assessed at the rate of $3.00 per fron
<br />lineal foot pursuant to a petition signed by seventyfive (75%) percent of the property owners
<br />affected by the requested improvements.
<br />
<br /> Section 3: That the City Clerk shall forthwith cause to be recorded an abstract of
<br />this resolution, together with a statement showing the ownership and location of the property
<br />to be affected by the proposed sidewalk and the estimated amount that will be assessed agains
<br />each abutting landowner in accordance wdth the statement therof on file in her office."

<br /> A combined location and design public hearing for this project was held
<br />6, 1979. This resolution endorses the location and major design features as
<br />that hearing. The City Manager recommends adoption."

<br />"A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE HODGES PERRY BRIDGE (PORTSMOUTH BOULEVARD) PROJECT.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, a Public Hearing was conducted on Septemher 6, 1979 in the City of Portsmouth
<br />by representatives of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Highways and Transportation
<br />after due and proper notice for the purpose of considering the proposed location and design
<br />of the Hodges Ferry Bridge (Portsmouth Boulevard) Project (O337-124-103, PE-iO1, RW-201, C-50
<br />in the City of Portsmouth at which hearing aerial photographs, drawings and other pertinent
<br />information were made available for public inspection in accordance with State and Federal
<br />
<br />requirements; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, all persons and
<br />cipate in said Public Hearing;
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, representatives
<br />hearing; and
<br />
<br />parties in attendance were afforded full opportunity to patti-
<br />and
<br />
<br />of the City of Portsmouth were present and participated
<br />
<br /> in said
<br />Department of Highways and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Council had previously requested
<br />Transportation to program this project; and

<br />the Virginia

<br />WHEREAS, the Council considered all such matters.
