April 8, 1980 <br /> <br />','A RESOLUTION CHANGING THE LOCATION OF THE REGULAR SCHEDULED PUBLIC HEARING <br />ON APRIL'22, 1980, TO T. A. WILLETT. AUDITORIUM AT WOODROW WILSON HIGH SCHOOL. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, April 22, 1980, is sceduled to be a Public Hearing on the 1980-81 Operating <br />Budget, the imposition and levying of taxes and fees for the purpose of raising revenue <br />for the support of governmental operations and the public schools, and general revenue <br />sharing; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is deemed appropriate that a <br />made available. <br /> <br /> NOW, <br />that the <br />the T. A. <br /> <br />larger facility <br /> <br />for such Public Hearing be <br /> <br /> of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br /> 22, 1980, be changed <br /> <br />THEREFORE, BE I~ RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />location of the regular scheduled Public Hearing on April <br />Willett Auditorium at Woodrow Wilson High School." <br /> <br />tO <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Beamer, Early, Gray, Holley, Oast, Davis <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 80-236 On motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Early, the following <br />was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />resolution <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY FOR THE CONTINUAL OPERATION <br />OF THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY NORFOLK ASSEMBLY PLANT. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there is located in the neighboring City of Norfolk, Virginia, the Ford <br />Motor Company Norfolk Assembly Plant which employs Two Thousand, Three Hundred (2,300) <br />persons, including approximately Two Hundred Fifty (250) residents of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it has been reported that the Environmental Protection Agency has placed new <br />restrictio~n-s on the operation of the Norfolk Assembly Plant to reduce hydrocarbon pollution <br />caused by painting operations{ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, these new restrictions may result in the closing of the Forty Five Million <br />($45,0~0.;~0.) ~etlam plant~ ~nd <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the closing of a plant <br />employees of the plant and the City <br />Area including Portsmouth; and <br /> <br />of such size will have an impact, <br />of Norfolk, but on the economy of <br /> <br />not-only on the <br />the entire Tidewater <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the State Air Pollution Control Bcard indicates, and the City of Portsmouth <br />believes, that the requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency can be modified to <br />assure the protection of the environment while permitting the ccntinual operation of the <br />Norfolk Assembly Plant. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, that it <br />supports the continual operation of the Ford Motor Company Norfolk Assemb]y Plant under <br />the less stringent emission standards recommended by the State Air Pollution Control <br />Board, which will permit the continual operation of the plant while assuring the protection <br />of the environment. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to all appropriate <br />Federal, State and Municipal officials and the Ford Motor Company. <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Beamer, Early, Gray, Holley, Oast, Davis <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />On motion meeting adjourned. <br />APPROVED <br /> <br /> Mayor <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
