July 8. 1980 <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereby is, directed to <br />certified copies of this Resolution to th~ Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Beamer, Gray, Oast, Webb, Whitlow, Johansen <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />forward <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br /> 80-242 - The following letter received from Constance C. Laws, Director, Community <br />Planning Division, The Planning Council, Norfolk, Virginia: <br /> <br /> "Approximately one year ago, The Planning Council was approached by community leaders <br />and requested to assume the role of leading the-planning effort for the development of a <br />regional hospice in the Tidewater area and of locating the funds necessary to enable this <br />activity. The Planning Council was responsible for underwriting the cost of the planning <br />process until the first of this year when enough money had been contributed from community <br />resources to begin to finance the effort. The planning for Tidewater Regional Hospice is well <br />underway but much more needs to be done in the months ahead with the ultimate goal of a plan <br />with a strong emphasis on continued regional cooperation. <br /> <br /> To date, the cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk and Virginia Beach are participating as well <br />as all the hospitals with the exception of Norfolk Community Hospital who was unable to con- <br />tribnte financially but is participating in the planning process. A list of the amnunts <br />committed by .the cities and hospitals is included. <br /> <br /> The City of Portsmouth has been requested to contribute $2,060 to the planning effort. <br />This amnunt represents 1S% of the total amount requested from the cities, based on population <br /> <br /> We sincerely hope that the City of Portsmouth will participate with us in the planning <br />for Tidewater Regional Hospice." <br /> <br /> Mrs. <br />Planning <br />Regional <br /> <br /> Laws, representing The Planning Council, was present and spoke on behalf of the <br />Council, and asked that the City of Portsmouth sunoort the planning for Tidewater <br />Hospice, along with the other cities in the area.- <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded bX Mrs. Webb, that the $2,060 be c.on~lbuted as requeste~ <br />and was adopted by unanimous vote. ~- ~ ' <br /> <br /> 80-243 <br />Commissions: <br /> <br />Councilman Oast offered the following nominations for appointments to Boards/ <br /> <br />Hampton Roads Air Quality Control <br /> District Commission <br /> <br />Lee Cobb as an Alternate, replacing Robert A. Metrakos, deceased. <br />Tidewater Community College Board <br /> <br />Will M. Quinn, Jr., to be appointed for a <br /> <br />Southeastern Public Service Authority <br /> of Virginia <br /> <br />term of four years, replacing Dr. M. A. Kise. <br /> <br /> J. E. Johansen to fill an unexpired term, ending De~ember 31, 1983, created by the <br />vacancy of Richard J. Davis. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. <br />no further nominations, the above members to <br />and was adopted by unanimons vote. <br /> <br />Beamer, to close nominations, and there being <br />be elected to the designated Board/Commission, <br /> <br /> 80-244 Motion of Mr. Beamer and seconded by Mr. Barnes, that proper resolutions be <br />prepared for former Mayor Richard J. Davis, former Vice Mayor James W. Holley, III, and <br />former Councilman E. Saunders Early, Jr., whose terms of office endsd on June 30, 198~, <br />and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />On motion <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />meeting adjourned to resume <br /> <br />the executive sessron. <br /> <br />City Cler~Z× <br /> <br /> <br />
