January 19. 1981 <br /> <br /> 6. That Portsmouth Marine Terminal experiences greater productivity in the use of <br />container gantry cranes; and <br /> <br /> 7. That the operation of Portsmouth Marine Terminal as a privately operated terminal <br />has been among the most efficient on the east coast; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the comparisons noted above clearly show that Portsmouth Marine Terminal is <br />more p~oductive and efficient than the non-profit public corporations; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Ports of Hampton Roads constitutes one of the Commonwealth's most valuable <br />assets and it is in the best interest of the Commonwealth and the localities involved that <br />they be developed to their utmost utilization. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth request <br />that the General Assembly adopt only such legislation as will provide the necessary flexibilit <br />for the development of the Port to assure its development to its utmost utilization and <br />that Senate Bill No. 548 be amended to provide that any mandate for consolidation provide <br />for the continued operation of any facilities by private operators where such continued <br />operation is in the best interest of the Comm3nwealth. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be instructed to forward a copy of this <br />Resolution to the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the members of the Portsmouth <br />Delegation to the General Assembly of Virginia." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Beamer, Gray, Oast, Webb, Whitlow Johansen <br />Nays: N~ne ' <br /> <br />Council resumed the exeautive sessi3n in accordance with th~ pre~ious motion. <br />On motion meeting recessed. <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br /> <br />
