20I <br /> <br />January 27, 1981 <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council <br />that it recognizes officially the distinguised and <br />Townsend Williams, and by means of this resolution, <br />many accomplishments. <br /> <br />of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />dedicated service rendered by Robert <br />call attention of our citizens to his <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be made a part of the permanent records <br />of the City, and a copy be presented to Mr. Williams, attesting to the appreciation of <br />this Council and the citizens of the City of Portsmouth for his contributions during his <br />years of honorable service." <br /> <br />,Aye.s: Barne.s, Beamer, Gray, Oast, Webb, Whitlow, Johansen <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> Mayor Johansen presented Mr. WilIlams a framed copy of the resolution. <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Beamer complimented Mr. Williams on his contribution to the Council and <br />help he had been zo the City of Portsmouth while serving as City Manager. <br /> <br /> Conncilman Gray expressed his appreciation to Mr. Williams for all the information <br />he had furnished and had given him the insite that he needed to help mare the decisions <br />in his opinion that had peen for the best interest of the city. <br /> <br /> 81-41 The following resolution £rom the School Board was received: <br /> <br /> "RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH TO APPROPRIATE <br /> $53,512 FOR DESIGN COSTS FOR THE RENOVATION OF T. A. WILLETT AUDITORIUM <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Portsmouth School System hgs worked closely with the City Engineering <br /> <br />Department and the City Public Works Department; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Portsmouth School System has worked <br />of Yates and Berkeley Associates; and <br /> <br />closely with the architecural firm <br /> <br />the <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Portsmouth School System views those ~enovations included in Alternate I1 <br />as suitable and necessary to serve the needs of the school system; and <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORe, BE IT RESOLVED that, ~n order to meet,t~e meeds of the School System <br />and the City, the School Board requests the Council of the City of Portsmouth to appropriate <br />$53,S12 to fund the design costs for the renovation of T. A. Willett Auditorium as designated <br />in Altern'ate III. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the~lerk of the School Board be instructed to forward a <br />copy of this resolution to the City Manager advising him of the action hereby taken.' <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Webb, that the information be forwarded to the <br />City Manager's office for a full report to the Council, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 81-42 ~.otion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mrs. Webb, to request the Highway Department <br />to do everything in its power To continue the I 664 from Chesaoeake to Newport News and that <br />a resolution be adpp~eR4to that e~fect asking the cities on Bot~ sides o~ Hampton~Roads ~ <br />to adopt similar resolution, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />On motion meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />' City C1 er~r~ <br /> <br /> <br />
