June 22, 1982 <br /> <br />At a regular meeting of the City Council held on June 22, 1982, there were present: <br />Jack P. Barnes, Ben A. Beamer, Sr., J. Robert Gray, Edward L. Oast, Jr., Gloria O. Webb, <br />Morton V. Whitlow, Steven Lieberman, City Manager, James T. Martin, Assistant City Attorne <br /> <br /> Absent: J. E. Johansen <br /> Vice Mayor Beamer presided in the absence of the Mayor. <br /> Dr. Ray O. Jones, Pastor, Alexander Baptist Church, opened the meeting with Frayer, <br />followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> Vice Mayor Beamer presiding in the Mayor's absence, welcomed all vistors in attendance. <br /> <br /> Motion of .Mr. Gray and seconded <br />the Public Hearing of June ?, <br />of the regular meeting of June <br /> <br /> by Mrs. Webb, minutes of the called meeting of June 7, 1982 <br />1982; minutes of the called meeting of June 8, 1982; and minutes <br /> 8, 1982 to be approved as received, and was adopted by unanimous <br /> <br />vote. <br /> <br /> 82-217 Certificates of Appreciation were presenCe8 <br />Brantley of the Clean Community Commission and Donald E. <br />Commission for their services rendered. <br /> <br />by Vice Mayo~ Beamer, to J. Hunter <br />Woodard of the Citizens Advise~y <br /> <br /> 82-218 Mr. Robert Henkel representing the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament presented <br />awards to the Wilson High Boosters, Churchland Baseball Association, and the Special Education <br />Athletic Program. Mr. Henkel presented a plaque to the City Council from the Boston Celtics, <br />"thanking the Council for their support given to the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament". <br /> Vice Mayor Beamer announced it was Councilman Oast's lastCou~¢±lmeeting. Edwards, owner,has made application <br />pursuant to 8ection 40-68.1(e) of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, <br />for the granting of a use permit as hereinafter-described; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the applicant and the Planning Director <br />done in connection with said application; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Planning Commission has recommended <br /> <br />have done all things required to be <br />the granting of said use permit. <br /> <br /> ~NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That the use for which the use permit hereinafter- described is sought: <br /> <br /> (a) Will nor adversely affect the health and safety of persons residing <br />or working in the neighborhood of the proposed use; <br /> <br /> (b) Will not be detrimental to the public use or injurious to the property <br />or imnrovements in the neighborhood; and <br /> <br />'~) Will be in accordance with the purposes of the Zoning Chapter of the City <br /> <br />Code. <br /> <br /> 2. Kooi King Corporation is hereby granted a use permit pursuant to Section 40- <br />68.1(e) of the Code of the City of Portsmouth to operate a wholesale and retail meat <br />processing facility on the property described as follows: <br /> <br /> .... UF-82'-13 <br /> <br /> Beginning at the southeast intersection of Turnpike Road and Portsmouth <br /> Boulevard; thence east along the south ri~ht-of-way of Turnpike Road 200 <br /> feet, more or less; thence south 150 feet, more or less, to the north right-of-way <br /> of Portsmouth Boulevard; thence westerly along said right-of-way of Portsmouth <br /> Boulevard 215 feet, more or less, to Turnpike Road, the point of origin. <br /> <br /> <br />
