<br /> "As-you know, the Cities of Portsmouth and Suffolk recently concluded an agreement
<br />whereby Portsmouth could drill deep wells at its water treatment facilities in Suffolk.
<br />Th~ 1980-81 drought clearly indicated a need for additonal water supply and it has been
<br />determined that deep wells would provide that water at the lowest cost.
<br />
<br /> Bids-have beenreceived'for Phase I of the project, which includes boring the well,
<br /> casing pipe and engineering work to test the acquifer. Phase II, which will be bid later,
<br />· will provide the pumps, motors and other elements to activate the wells. Bids for Phase I
<br /> were as follows:

<br /> Funds are available in the Public Utilities Capital Improvements Fund for this project.

<br />FUND FOR PHASE I OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF TWO DEEP WELLS ON THE CITY WATERSHED IN
<br />SUFFOLK."

<br /> "The 1982-87 ~Capital Improvements Program authorizes $700,000 in the current fiscal
<br />year for construction of a new sewage pumping station and appurtenant sewer lines to service
<br />the Downtown Waterfront Area.
<br />
<br /> This project includes construction of the force main down Glasgow
<br />Street to Effingham Street to convey sewage from the new pump station
<br />st~ation at the corner of Glasgow and Effingham Streets.
