This Resolution shall take effect immediately." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Robinett, Whitehurst <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Benn, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />01-259(B): <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $4,000,000 IN THE CAPITAL <br />IMPROVEMENTS FUND TO FUND THE NEW JOHN TYLER ELEMENTARY <br />SCHOOL AND RELATED COSTS." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Robinett, Whitehurst <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />01 - 260 - Adoption of a resolution requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation <br />(VDOT) to establish a construction project for the improvement of the bridges on <br />London Boulevard over Martin Luther King Freeway and the Norfolk and Portsmouth <br />Beltline Railroad. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of a resolution requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation <br />(VDOT) to establish a construction project for the improvement of the bridges on <br />London Boulevard over Martin Luther King Freeway and the Norfolk and Portsmouth <br />Beltline Railroad. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· Through a special legislative effort last year, the City of Portsmouth was the recipient <br />of $1.5 million in funding for the purpose of making necessary repairs, including <br />painting, structural and deck repairs to the two bridges on London Boulevard. <br /> <br />· In order for VDOT to proceed with this work, it is required that the City adopt a <br />resolution requesting the project that will be administered by the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· This project is funded by the State with no City match required. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Benn, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF <br />TRANSPORTATION TO ESTABLISH A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT FOR THE <br />IMPROVEMENT OF BRIDGES ON LONDON BOULEVARD. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in accordance with Virginia Department of Transportation <br />construction allocation procedures, it is necessary that a request by Council resolution <br />be made in order that the Department program an urban highway project in the City of <br />Portsmouth; <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia requests the Virginia Department of Transportation to establish a <br />project for the improvement of the London Boulevard bridges from Virginia Avenue to <br />Constitution Avenue, a distance of approximately 0.2 miles. <br /> <br /> <br />
